چکیده

We analyze the following problem: Each node of the d-dimensional hypercube independently generates packets according to a Poisson process with rate A; each of the packets is to be broadcast to all other nodes. Assuming unit packet length and no other communications taking place, we show that the system can be stable in steady-state only if the load factor pdef 2A"' satisfies p < 1; moreover, we establish some lower bounds for the steady-state average delay D per packet. We devise and analyze several distributed routing schemes that prove to be efficient, in the following sense: Stability is maintained for all p < p*, where p* does not depend on the dimensionality d of the network, while the delay D is O(d) + O(d)p for small values of p. Performance evaluation of the various schemes is exact to a considerable extent; in some cases, exact analysis is intractable and we resort to approximations and/or simulations. t Research supported by the NSF under Grant ECS-8552419, with matching funds from Bellcore Inc. and Du Pont, by the ARO under Grant DAAL03-86-K-0171, and by a Fellowship from the Vinton Hayes Fund. i Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass. 02139, USA.

Efficient Deadlock-Free Multi-dimensional Interval Routing in Interconnection Networks

Abst rac t : We present deadlock-free packet (wormhole) routing algorithms based on multi-dimensional interval schemes for cert~n multiprocessor interconnection networks and give their analysis in terms of the compactness and the size (the maximum number of buffers per node (per link)). The issue of a simultaneous reduction of the compactness and the size is fundamental, worth to investigate an...

Efficient Multicast in All-Port Wormhole-Routed Hypercubes

This paper addresses the problem of collective data distribution, speci cally multicast, in wormhole-routed hypercubes. The system model allows a processor to send and receive data in all dimensions simultaneously. New theoretical results that characterize contention among messages in wormhole-routed hypercubes are developed and used to design new multicast routing algorithms. The algorithms ar...

Linear Interval Routing

We study a variant of Interval Routing SK85, LT86] where the routing range associated with every link is represented by a linear (i.e., contiguous) interval with no wrap around. This kind of routing schemes arises naturally in the study of dynamic Preex Routing BLT90]. Linear Interval Routing schemes are precisely the Preex Routing schemes that use an alphabet of one symbol. We characterize the...

Parallel routing in exchanged hypercubes

Parallel routing and diameter are two important issues in interconnection networks. The hypercube is one of the most popular interconnection networks for parallel systems due to its attractive properties such as low diameter and efficient parallel routing. The exchanged hypercube, which is a variant of the hypercube by removing some specific edges, remains several desirable properties of the hy...

Optimal Routing for Odd-Even Rotations on BRGC Hypercubes

It has been an open problem for a long time whether there exists an optimal routing algorithm for rotations on BRGC hypercubes such that all the paths are shortest and link-disjoint. In this paper, we consider the routing problem of odd-even rotations on BRGC hypercubes. It is a generalization of the rotation problem on BRGC hypercubes such that even nodes and odd nodes can have different rotat...
